Protein conformation- focus on skin in SSc

Proteopathy (protein conformational disease) applies to the diseases, in which specific proteins convert to become structurally aberrant that leads to the alteration in the cell function and further to the tissue remodelling and organ dysfunction.

We aim to screen any changes in the protein conformation in the specific stromal (mainly dermal fibroblasts), and myeloid cell populations derived from SSc patients and from healthy donors. We believe that the insights from this project might offer a new tool to find new biomarker on the one side. On the other side, this project opens new avenues in the understanding the progression of dermal or visceral organ fibrogenesis in SSc.
